Clarity involves the characteristics of a diamond that are internal aspects called inclusions and surface irregularities called blemishes. These imperfections were given by nature and remained even after a diamond is cut.

Clarity is parallel to the absence of blemishes and inclusions. No two diamonds have the same clarity characteristics, and it can be called the diamond’s fingerprint. You can actually identify your diamond just by its clarity features if they have been documented with a cert!

    GIA Clarity Grading System

There are 11 grades that a diamond can receive with 6 levels of clarity.

    • Flawless (F)
    • Internally Flawless (IF)
    • Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1 & VVS2)
    • Very Slightly Included (VS1 & VS2)
    • Slightly Included (SI1 & SI2)
    • Included (I1, I 2, I3 )

The clarity criteria for diamonds graded using 10x magnification are size, number, position, nature, and color or relief. Most inclusions are not visible to the untrained naked eye.

The word ‘inclusions’ sometimes gets a bad rap because they may have a negative influence on a diamond’s value. Less than 1% of diamonds in the world are flawless, so having inclusions shouldn’t be looked at as a bad thing. Clarity makes your diamond unique & distinguished.
